#4 GOD CARES ABOUT IT MORE THAN YOU DO

THE PRESSURE OF BEING A SERIOUS CHRISTIAN

Doing our spiritual life can feel like an insurmountable hill:

  • An additional thing we have to do

  • One more task to add to our schedule

  • Another opportunity for failure

If we are going to be "good Christians" then we have to take on all these extra assignments:

  • Bible reading

  • Prayer time

  • Devotions

  • Worship services

  • Service projects

  • Etc.

And no matter how much we do, there's always more we could/should be doing. So it feels like we are never doing enough!

THE GOOD NEWS: GOD CARES ABOUT IT MORE THAN YOU DO

God cares about your church, your discipleship, your spouse, your kids, your friends, your job... all of it! All the good things worth caring about

God cares about it more!

Our mistake is believing everything is up to us. That it all comes down to our effort, or competence, our commitment. But the truth is we can't make God love us any more or less than he already does!

We don't have to convince God

  • to show up (he's already present and at work)

  • to care about it (he already does)

  • to help us grow (he already wants us to grow)

We only need to respond to what we notice God doing

CONSENT VS CONTROL

We need to learn a new way of being in the world - a way of consent, rather than control.

Consent is simply giving permission for God to work in us and joining with God as he works through us.
