An "AXIOM" is a truth so obvious that it doesn't need to be proven
We have created a great divide between our "regular" life and our "spiritual" life.
Our goals for AXIOMS are:
To integrate our regular life with our spiritual life
To learn a new way to discern theology and the Bible
INTEGRATING OUR LIFE
We often think of our life in parts
Home
Work/school
Church
We spend all our time/energy trying to find a proper balance between them: spending enough at home with our family; at work to be successful; and at church to be faithful. But what if these weren’t different parts, but one cohesive whole?
Too often, we treat home/work/school (the secular, day-to-day parts) as our regular life. This is where we live and function; while our spiritual life as the church is where we go to be inspired and improved.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF LIVING LIKE THIS
We divide our life between: regular and spiritual / secular and sacre
Regular life takes precedence over everything
Spiritual life is done in our “spare time”
The Axioms will help us tear down that divide so that our spiritual life and our secular life all becomes our real life.
THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY (THEOLOGY AND THE BIBLE)
The Bible is NOT THE FINAL AUTHORITY for a Christian.
Jesus is.
CHRIST IS THE SUN
He’s the biggest object
Provides all the light to everything else
Everything else in the solar system orbits it
His gravity holds the entire solar system together
The Bible revolves around Jesus
The Bible is one long story that points to Jesus
The Bible actually submits to Jesus’ own authority
IF CHRIST IS THE SUN, THE BIBLE LOOKS MORE LIKE JUPITER
It's the second largest object in the solar system
Its gravity still has an impact on the rest of the solar system
It still revolves around the Sun
OK! But...WHAT IS AN AXIOM?
An “axiom” is a truth that JESUS HIMSELF assumes to be true. If Jesus lives in these truths, then we can and must assume them too. The axioms are so obvious that we won't find them all explicitly in the Bible but we do see how the Bible and Jesus demonstrate these truths.
So, if our biblical interpretations or our theology seem to contradict these axioms, we more than likely need to re-examine our reading and theology!
