My eyes are continually toward the Lord, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.
-Psalm 25:15 –
There is such profound wisdom is this brief verse of scripture. When I read this week, I was reminded of the years when I was mother to very small children. They looked to me for everything. When they were hungry, when they’d made a mess, when they were in pain and especially, when they were afraid. The moment they realized they were in an unfamiliar situation, they immediately began to search and to cry out for me in whatever way their limited vocabulary allowed.
Perhaps this is one way in which we are to be like little children. As adults, when we are faced with a challenging situation—when we’re confused, afraid, in pain or we’ve made a mess of things—we tend to turn our eyes steadfastly to the problem with the goal of “figuring it all out.” We think if we look at the problem long enough, the answer will become clear. All too often, when we continually look at the problem, the “net” just gets tighter and tighter. We struggle and squirm, succeeding only in greater bondage, frustration and exhaustion. What we need to do is look continually toward the Lord who is infinitely able to deliver us from whatever “net” we find ourselves (or get ourselves) in.
In your quiet time today, purposefully and prayerfully turn your eyes away from the net and back toward the deliverer.
Prayer
Lord, when my problems seem to be overwhelming, help me to keep my eyes more on you and less on the problem. I know you can deliver me. In the strong name of Jesus, my deliverer, I pray. Amen.
