Happiness... At What Cost?

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

-Psalm 90:12

Life is hard enough to challenge us to carry it, steep enough to challenge us to climb it, and immensely complicated to learn to live it. Once we have learned to be children we realize that we are no longer children and then we face the inhospitable jungle of adolescence and when we believe we are capable of surviving it, we are already adults who every day it becomes more difficult to learn, so all the more difficult to "be happy".

I thought that maybe a plush toy dog could satisfy my little daughter's longing, and although she did, her effect lasted so little, that in a couple of months there wouldn't fit another stuffed animal in her room; She then began to develop respiratory problems due to an allergy and what had been only a longing had already turned into grief; until I had that great idea to buy her a tablet where she could spend all day watching videos of dogs of all kinds; You can imagine the side effects that such an ingenious idea produced on her physical health and our relational health.

Perhaps we have been paying a high price for moments of happiness that "are worth it" but that when added together actually result in having paid 10 times the value of a "real dog", not counting the side effects. Happiness, more than the attitude with which life must be faced, is the consequence of knowing how to live it; in its exciting moments and its great challenges, in the comfortable sigh, the shrill scream, the hidden laugh and the inevitable tear. I think we have gone through all of these, and they are precisely the platform where happiness is encoded, "in what I have and not in what is missing."

The apostle Paul knew by direct experience admiration and recognition, but also hatred and contempt; He also knew all the possibilities of "having": "having everything, having everything enough and needing everything". But once he accesses the platform of happiness, by knowing the true way of living, that unique and wonderful plan of life that the Creator of life itself has established, he says: “I have learned to be content, whatever my situation. . I know how to live humbly, and I know how to have abundance; in everything and for everything I am taught, both to be satiated and to be hungry, so to have abundance as to be in need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me ”(Philippians 4: 11-13). Learn to live in such a way that it brings joy to your days, look for the life plan that God has for you, invest in it, Be Happy!

Prayer
